From Lover to Murderer

You think you love someone. You decide that this is The One. Everything is hunky-dory until the man you love becomes your murderer. This is a story that is flooding headlines in the month of December. A man, drowning in debt, marries the girl of his dreams; takes out insurance for her life and then murders her to pay off his over-consuming debt! Sickening story.

I've tried to wrap my mind around this incident and find who is to blame. Is it the wife who fell prey because of her foolishness or the husband with evil intentions from the start? I battled with the thought of the wife's foolishness and thought to myself: surely she could have seen the signs, heard the stories of his debt and questioned his offer to insure her life. The heart is no fool, unless the foolishness was spurred by her own blindness. Then I thought, no, she could have just simply been blinded by love. I mean, the man swept her off her feet and taking out life insurance may have been seen as a simple gesture of love due to his own insecurity. What about the man? He was the one who plotted this whole evil deed right from the start. Perhaps, she was just at the wrong place, at the wrong time. But how could someone get a woman to fall in love with them with the intention of paying off his debt with her life! Since when did life become a payment for debt? Do people really match up the price of life with a simple dollar sign?

This is evidence that money is truly the root of evil. So I choose to blame society for making money seem like the key to and mark of happiness, security and  endless fulfillment. Both the man and the woman where victims of society's pressures. Both where blinded by what they saw to be true, but as with all things the Truth of Jesus Christ will always prevail. (See 1 Timothy 6: 9-11)
