Another Day

The title of this post may have evoked one of two feelings in you, characterising you as either an optimist or a pessimist:
  1. If you thought "another day in my life" or "it's just another day", then sadly you are a pessimist.
  2. If you read this title and thought "another day to live life!" or "another day to correct the mistakes of yesterday", then you are one of the few optimists in our society. Congratulations!
Well this note is for both the optimist and the pessimist, so read on and you might learn a thing or two.

Today is another day. Is it really? How do we define the word "another" and can these two words (another day) be placed together in a sentence? Let's explore. The best suited definition i found in the Collins dictionary said that "you use the word 'another' when you want to emphasize that an additional thing or person is different to that one that already exists". So we can say, " Tomorrow will be another day" because 'day' refers to today, a day that exists and tomorrow will be an additional day to the week, month, and year. We cannot, however, say "Today is just another day" because in this sentence 'day' is 'today' and today cannot be an additional day to today! Get it? Got it? Good!

The point i'm trying to make is that we can't live grammatically incorrect lives. What do i mean by this? Well, in my example of sentence structure and the use of 'another' in certain contexts, we can see that if we lived our lives saying that "today is just another day" we would in fact  be living a life that does not make sense!

Is my point still not coming across? I'm trying to say that we should live today keeping yesterday in mind! If you made a mistake yesterday then think of today as your second chance, because tomorrow is not guaranteed! "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mistery and today is a gift that's why we call it the present." - a quote by i don't know who, but he sure hit the nail on the head! So let's live today intentionally, not just as "Another Day"!

"This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!" - Psalm 118:24
